Manresa Retreat House

Back to Retreat Houses

A Spiritual Retreat Centre run by Jesuits.

This Retreat House is on the outskirts of ir-Rabat and offers views of the ancient Citadel, as well as fields, valleys, villages and, in the distance, the blue Mediterranean Sea.

The house was built in 1810 and entrusted to the Jesuits in 1953. It is built around a beautiful central chapel and courtyard and has extensive gardens with fountains, orange trees, arbours and gazebos.

All rooms have en suite facilities and views of the garden and the surrounding countryside. The rooms are well-ventilated in summer and heated in winter. There are 30 rooms available for visitors, sixteen of which can take more than one person.

Other facilities include a small prayer room, a specialist library, and three multi-media conference halls that can take 25, 40 and 120 people and are suitable for a variety of meetings and seminars.

Good local wine is served with meals of fresh fish and a wide variety of Mediterranean fruit, herbs and vegetables, some of which are grown in the retreat house garden.

Retreats at Manresa House

We welcome people of all denominations coming for rest and recuperation or for a retreat. Manresa offers a variety of guided retreats for individuals and groups based on the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Retreats can be silent or non-silent and the Jesuit Community offers spiritual encouragement, accompaniment and support within an inspiring and peaceful setting.

We offer retreats in English, Maltese, Italian and French. Let us know well in advance what sort of retreat you would like and we will be very happy to make the arrangements. It is all the more important to book well in advance if you require personal direction during the retreat. The house is also open for seminars and study days.

Individually Guided Retreats

Retreatants meet with their spiritual director each day and spend the rest of the time in quiet and prayer. Many people come from abroad for this type of retreat.

!!!Group Retreats
Gozo is a unique island, combining peace and serenity with stunning natural features. We are able to offer a variety of group retreats which draw upon these features including:
Walking retreats, Nature and contemplation, Sea Themes, The Travels of St. Paul, Visits to and Prayer at various shrines. Retreats in these surroundings can be contemplative, deeply personal and can draw us closer to God.

Other services

The house also offers daily liturgical services in the form of two Holy Masses, one in the morning and one in the evening. These are open to the public.

Next to our House, there is a small Monastery of Poor Clares who also offer a number of liturgical services to the public and many retreatants staying at Manresa avail themselves of the opportunity to attend these also. The Poor Clares invite the public to join them for the recitation of the prayer of the Church, the daily celebration of the Eucharist and a daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in silence every evening.

Accessible for persons with a disability.
