Open Night: La Boheme

A penniless poet, a young seamstress and love at first sight. It has all the ingredients of the most classical of love stories. Add a liberetta by Illica and Giacosa and music score by Puccini and there you have the timeless epic of La Boheme.

Entrusted in the formidable hands of stage director Viven Hewitt and artistic director and conductor Colin Attard. Set in the 1880’s Paris of Puccini, we see “The City of Light”, a metropolis with bustling streets and a huge amount of night life and street entertainment, very similar to Puccini’s Milan. As exciting as this gets, the Aurora Theatre administration, once again paired Vivien Hewitt with the celebrated couturier Luke Azzopardi.

A four-act story of witchcraft, murder and vengeance. Verdi’s Il Trovatore has some of the most rousing choruses and arias in any of his operas. Verdi’s 1853 spellbinder of Opera’s golden age will rank with the rosiest of recollections of recent glories at the Teatru Astra.

The Opera will feature the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, international soloists and the Teatru Astra Opera Chorus. Italian renowned director Enrico Stinchelli will once again be entrusted with the artistic direction, whilst John Galea will conduct his first opera at Teatru Astra.
