Music in Votive Liturgy and Festive Celebration – Gozo Cathedral, Cittadella
Music takes prominence as Gozo celebrates the traditional festivities in honour of its patron Saint Ursula. A solemn High Mass at the Gozo Cathedral at 10.30am will feature some of the oldest choral and orchestra music found at the Cathedral’s Musical Archives. The Cathedral cappella choir and orchestra will revive some manuscripts that have never been performed before. This will be preceded at 9.30am by a historical talk on the cult of St. Ursula in Gozo, which dates at least 400 years by the historian and Ass.t National Archivist of Malta, Mgr Dr. Joseph Bezzina. The event will continue with a folk fest through the old medieval streets of the Gozo Cittadella, as the statue of St Urusla is carried in procession. Folk dances and street performers will animate the surroundings with music and other performances. Free entrance.
