Xagħra celebrates the feast of its Patron Saint, Maria Bambina, the Church being dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary. The festivities are therefore meant to honour Our Lady, the Mother of God, on her birthday – 8th September. The Day is one of Malta’s National Days and has strong historical ties. In fact, the feast day is more popularly known as “Il-Vitorja’’ (The Victory) and the Madonna known as Our Lady of Victory because important dates are attached to this day.
The feast includes spectacular firework displays, street parades, and religious activities.
