Jackie Roberts | Metal Artist

Back to Gozo Artisans

“I create decorative, functional and wearable art in metal from my private studio/workshop in Xewkija. Crossing the boundaries of art and craft I use traditional metalworking techniques to make contemporary, collectable, hand-crafted pieces with a distinctive style.

Inspired by culture, nature and travel, using my imagination to interpret the world around me, I work in copper, mild steel and brass using hand and power tools to cut, shape and mark, then bring out the natural hues of the metal by artistic burning. I often incorporate scrap metal, found objects, fabric, driftwood, stone, sea glass, pottery and plant material into my work reincarnating what others have thrown away.

I undertake private commissions and show my work at select venues around the Maltese islands and overseas. I have been awarded a Malta Crafts Council prize for innovation and creativity and have taken part in many collective and group exhibitions and staged solo exhibitions on the Maltese Islands and overseas.  I was delighted to be included in Vol. 1 of ‘The Artists’ Directory Malta’ featuring 100 top contemporary artists.  My work has been collected by clients worldwide.”
