Some Tips and Hints if you’re getting Married in Gozo

Back to Blogs

Gozo is sometimes called the island of joy and it is the perfect place for a wonderful wedding!

If you’ve been tinkering with the idea of getting married in Gozo, rest assured that is easier than one imagines it to be!  It is true that organising a destination wedding needs more thoughts and plans but these hints will get you started in the right direction!

  1. Think about the Seasons

The first question that springs to mind is when shall the wedding celebrations occur.  Gozo is an island for all seasons. The sunny days and the mild winters mean that the choice of season is simply up to you.  Local weddings happen all year long but late spring, summer and early autumn weddings are more popular. Keep that in mind when you’re looking at venues and speaking to service providers.

  1. Decide on the location

Gozo boasts a variety of locations that can act as a perfect backdrop.  The following are some of the most alluring spots that are difficult to beat:

  • The Citadel;
  • The various Watchtowers;
  • Beaches like Ramla Bay, Ħondoq, San Blas, Mġarr ix-Xini;
  • Lunzjata Valley;
  • Fort Chambray;
  • Various chapels and churches scattered around the island.
  1. Select Accommodation

Accommodation is a key factor and one needs to plan according to the size of the wedding party, length of stay and budgets.  Gozo offers varied accommodation options like 5-star hotels with spas, 4-star and 3-star hotels, boutique hotels, aparthotels, guesthouses and self-catering villas, apartments and farmhouses.  Most of the hotels have designated reception halls, grounds and gardens which can also be hired for the event!

  1. Identify the Key Service Providers

A wedding can be a simple event or an elaborate one.  In any case, you need to identify the main service providers like caterers, photographers, bakers, florists, beauticians, hairstylists and videographers.   There are no language barriers as everyone speaks English but early booking is important.

  1. Wedding planners will make life simpler

Destination weddings can be more complex to orchestrate especially when it comes to documentation and paperwork. This is where the service of an expert wedding planner will come in truly useful.  Wedding planners know the industry like the back of their hand, and they will be able to guide you through the maze of choices and coordinate the event on your behalf and handle logistics.

  1. Plan and guide your guests

If your guests are taking a plane (or two) to join your wedding celebrations, then it is important to think of their needs.  The least you can do is help them by providing details about the nuptials as early as possible so that they can plan from their end to be able to enjoy the island too.

  1. Set some time for a honeymoon

Gozo is also a great destination for a honeymoon.  Weddings can be a hectic event. Once the wedding is over, dedicate some days to yourself and spend some extra days in Gozo.
