Gozo – A wedding destination for all seasons

Back to Blogs

Gozo is not only an ideal destination for romantic island escapes or honeymoons, but it is a unique spot to organise your dream destination wedding.

Weddings in Gozo are usually charming, but they can be sumptuous, romantic, stylish or rustic. The small island of Gozo can cater for many different styles and tastes.

The following are some ideas:

  • We truly mean it when we say that in terms of a backdrop, you’re spoilt for choice. If you love the historic and opulent you have a variety of places like the majestic Citadel. For a princessy splurge, you can consider a ceremony at one of the luxury hotels where a lavish stand-up or seated reception is usually the norm. If you’re organising an intimate, more secluded event, you can choose one of the many prestigious villas and bring in outside caterers to organise your banquet.

  • If you’re keen on the country and rustic, there are wayside places, like Lunzjata valley, that comes complete with a chapel. In terms of chapels, there are many around the island. The one at San Dimitri in the middle of the countryside is simply idyllic, especially if you’re thinking of incorporating a sunset in your wedding. From more drama, you can consider one of the many coastal towers. Your event can be held at a typical Gozitan farmhouse or at a farming estate where you will have more access to traditional Gozitan delicacies. Yet another option would be a wedding in a winery. For a casual wedding, you can simply opt for a restaurant located at one of the many local villages piazzas or sea-side locations.

  • If your inspiration is nature, then you can consider a ceremony in open countryside or at the water’s edge. In winter, you’ll have verdant rolling hills for scenery and, in the summer months, you’ll have ochre tones sweeping through the countryside. The crystalline turquoise waters of Gozo’s beaches and coves are there all year round. Beaches and coastal areas like Dwejra, Xwejni, Daħlet Qorrot, Ramla Bay and San Blas are hard to resist.

Start by getting in touch with a local wedding organiser and discuss your preferred season and dates. Your organiser will guide you and in Gozo the professional services are second to none. It’s also a bonus if you already know if you want a religious or a civil ceremony and if you’re looking at a standing up or a banqueting reception.

Whatever the case, rest assured that in Gozo you’ll have a unique wedding with a magical allure that fits your budget and matches your style.
